this saturday and sunday (april 28 + 29th) is the encinitas street fair.
ah, the small town street fair... where every other booth is either a chiropractor or solar power company and next to them you have crafters along side rastafarians, next to the bratwurst king -it's a little slice of america.
as you eat and drink your way along the fair path, leave room in your tummy for a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade. the ott kids are setting up shop at m.o.m, so keep your schedule open and stop by for a hello! and a little something sweet and tart.

pie day #4, in pictures

what can we say? except what we know some pretty great people. great people that know how to bake some pretty spectacular pies.
we had bite-size pie, pizza pie (the dixon ladies are unstoppable), coconut crust pie, peanut butter pie with chocolate sauce, banana cream pie (a few), chocolate pie, custard pie, a strawberry and a blueberry galette, and on and on and on....

ps: greta's crack pie was one of the highlights of pie day; she's posted the recipe on her blog. another big hit of the day was bianca's sweet potato pie with homemade whipped cream... hurray!, she's shared the recipe on her blog!

the countdown begins...

hi! the countdown is on.. pie day is only 6 days away, how are you coming along with your pie recipe?
this morning we sat down and wrote out our to-do list for this week; some fun things (buy flowers) others not so fun (clean the shop floor).
here's something fun: check out the post social today, it's all sweet and gooey and has m.o.m written all over it! thanks post social gals for getting us to step out a bit. (we love, love, love the font they used for the title -it's perfect, check it out)

start your ovens: Pie Day #4 is right around the corner!

okay everyone, start pulling out those pie recipes and get to testing. our 4th annual pie day will be here before you know it!
it's always been a fun day, filled with sweet and savory pies (obvs), a little hopscotch and coloring, making new frineds and seeing old friends.
at m.o.m we of course prefer homemade to store bought, but no pie will be refused. if need be, go talk to your best friend marie about baking a pie for you.
pie day happens rain or shine - so far we've lucked out and had lovely weather every year.
hope to see you march 11th - it'll be sweet!

3 years in the making

we've been handing out rulers with our business name and website printed on them for years (that's a photo of the ruler at the top of the blog). it's always been a fun (and handy!) thing to give away. it was suggested to us, years ago, that we make the ruler our shop sign. well, here we are 3 years later with a sign that i just finished painting today!
i wonder how long it will take us to get it on the building?

new stuff

hi. how's the year going for you so far?
for us, so far so good.
we've added two new links to the right hand sidebar: photography and recipes. these links will open new pages that will be dedicated to their titles. we've been posting recipes for a while now, but i've never had a dedicated section for photography; this is my first time really putting it out there... be kind, i'm self-conscious.
we are just starting to add to the new pages, so keep checking in for more recipes and photo's.

playing around

it's a cold and rainy day here in encinitas, therefore it's been dead in the shop. so i've been taking pictures and playing around with the apps in my iphone. here are a few more images i snapped of our christmas trees - well, of the packaging and dislay. they're just so stinkin' fun!

A m•o•m Christmas Tree

we hope you get a kick out of our trees; we smile every time we see them.

• traditional tree
this is our "charlie brown" style. doesn't it just make you smile?

here's one with a bit of decoration on it.

made from astroturf. tabletop height: 24" tall x 23.5" wide. tack to the wall with push pins or foam-backed sticky tape.

• modern tree
for those that prefer a simpler line. we are in love with this one!

with a little color.
we learned that felt sticks to the astroturf - fun!

we first had a christmas tree like this in 2001. my mom lives in a condo and space is tight. so she made herself a tree similar to these, strung lights around the perimeter, and used little cowboys and indians as her decorations. it was one of the coolest things i had ever seen. we've wanted to offer them to you for years, but just never got our act together in time.
well, we've finally done it. and we're super stoked to offer these quirky little trees to you.

Hiya friends!

During these last 3 years at the shop we've had a number of requests for lessons (sewing, crochet, embroidery, general m.o.m craftiness); well we're considering taking the plunge. But before we announce anything we've got a few things to work out and we'd like your input.

Here are some of the particulars:
• Lessons (for right now) would be for adults.
• These wouldn't be sewing lessons, but rather m.o.m-style fun stuff.

What are your thoughts:
• Weekday or weekend?
• Daytime or evening?

What interests you:
• Garlands?
• Mobiles?
• Wrapped/covered hangers?

It's shiny new!

we done got ourselves a website!

we are so stoked to let you in on the latest here at m•o•m... we have a real live website! 42ndandorange.com, not just a splash page that links you to this blog, but an honest-to-goodness website. visitors to the site can see images of our studio and work, read about what inspires us and get a sense of who we are. there are also links to etsy (we humbly beg forgiveness on the sorry state of our etsy shop) and the antoinette jewelry collection.
there is also a blog associated with the website; i added a few things to it yesterday to get a feel for it. to let you in on what we're thinking... we don't know if we'll keep this blog that you're reading or switch over to the new one integrated into the website. we're discussing the pros and cons -lots to consider.

here is the banner for the new site. as you can see i was truly blown away by the image grouping kelli murray put together when she spoke about us on her blog. by pulling together just four of our photo's, she perfectly captured the feel of what we do here at m•o•m. so i ran with that idea... swapping out one of the images, and very importantly adding in nanny. ain't it cute?
