42nd and Orange

studio visits

sorry for lagging on the blog posts. my brain is a bit fried as multiple projects are nearing their end at the same time, so we are crazy multi-multi taskers right now... what day is it? do i have to be somewhere? what are we working on today? mom and i ask these questions and more, a million times each day.

this anika, a recent studio visitor. she was sooooo nice and friendly. anika is from germany and is taking 3 months to travel. so far she's hit new york, san francisco, los angeles, and encinitas (kinda crazy that encinitas/san diego is part of her "places to go"). then she heads to australia, and i think she said she was going somewhere in indonesia. how fun! oh and she's traveling by herself - total girl power!

here is shaylin, my cousin leela's middle daughter. we had a fun day a few weeks ago when my aunt kathe, shaylin, and little genevieve stopped by for a visit. here shaylin is showing off a prototype bag we made out of nu-nu doll t-shirts. shaylin is one of the original m•o•m models as was her older sister haley who you may remember spent a long weekend with us this summer as our first intern.

as little sisters do, genevieve wanted to be just like her big sister. so we shot a picture of her with a bag too. and as little people do, she proceeded to put it in her mouth.

thanks for stopping by. i'd like to say that i will be better at posting, but these next few weeks are really full and i just don't know how much time i can give to the blog right now. we're not going away, quite the contrary, things are pretty exciting and we really want to share everything with you. i just need to get a few things finished and off our plate. i will try to post small views of the studio as we work and get ready for the holidays.  have a great weekend!

a big thanks to the family and friends that stopped by this weekend to celebrate with us. the studio is a bloom with all the great flowers brought to us.

we also made new friends, a mom and her three adorable daughters -thanks to their uncle bill!

sophia had just come from a soccer game and was still in her uniform, but she couldn't wait to wear her new gracie pinafore. 

little annaclaire, the youngest, was the first to choose. she went straight for our katie dress and wore it out of the shop.

ella, the eldest sibling decided to go for an accessory; our newest product a crocheted fabric purse. she's also holding a bookmark which was a gift from us.

devlin is an original m•o•m fan. she knew us when we were sewing out of our home. with a closet full of m•o•m, she showed up saturday wearing a one-of-a-kind m•o•m t-shirt. devlin and her family are some of our favorite people.

and here is benjamin, the son of a very dear friend. finally, a dude! he's wearing the buddy shirt and we think it looks great paired with his plaid shorts. this kid gets it.

here's to another year at our lovely little studio.

new canadian friends

sisely came by our shop last weekend with her brother and mother; they're vacationing from canada. we had such a good time with them. sisely began accessorizing her outfit right away with our cool tie and an adorable pair of huaraches -so very southern california of her.

 

here's the best shot of the day. sisely wanted to see what mom was doing, so mom offered to hold her piggy-back; she jumped on and got a great view. how cute is that!

it swings away from the body and is simply too cute. we are as usual, making it with vintage and new fabrics.

modeled here by heather, a total groovy mom that came by the shop saturday with her daughter and husband. they were in encinitas visiting family while undertaking a big move from new york to santa monica. we wish them good luck and hope they visit us again.

texas surfer girls

look at this adorable trio that stopped by the other day.
on vacation from texas, i learned that we are kindred spirits - crocheting and knitting gifts for friends and family - i was ready to hire them on the spot.

their mother (and aunt: the girls are two sisters and a cousin) told me they would be back in a week with another sister and would visit us again. we're looking forward to it.

i've been making these dotpins for a number of years but never knew how to display them. a week ago i busted out this card design and now the pins are in the shop. you can see in the picture above that one of the girls from texas got a set.

the pins look great on your shirt, bag, and hat. i've had the dotpins on the lapels of my jean jacket for years. the pins are definitely equal opportunity  - guys don't be afraid of color!

big brother

jet, one of our favorite new friends came by the shop yesterday with his dad. there was so much to catch up on as jet is now a big brother to a little sister born last friday.
congratulations swart family! we can't wait to meet baby b (that's what jet calls her).

jet knows right where our matchbox car collection is. he shared his motorcycle and "helmut guy" with us - it was cool.

we laughed, we danced...

it was all good.
but then again it's always good when jet visits.

the 80's revisted

okay as promised, here are some pictures from high school -in the 80's. these are so funny and absolutely fabulous i can't stand it.

okay, this one is so totally rad. it epitomizes the 80's -the hair, the broaches. i'm dying. the girl in this picture is my friend tracy -we are still in touch. i'm not sure if she reads our blog, i will have to email this to her.

all of these photo's were taken by hila. she's my good high school friend that showed up at our studio the other week and gave us this awesome gift; it had been 10 years since we last saw each other.

there are more images from different "photo shoots" we had. i will share them over time, i don't want to force them on you all at once. i think the fumes from the aqua net we used is oozing out of the photographs, i feel light-headed and i have a sudden urge to listen to soft cell.

my dear friend hila, whom i had not seen in over 10 years walked into our studio last week. during our visit she mentioned a child size dress form that she would like to give us; i never expected this.
when she brought it by it was perfectly wrapped in brown paper and tied with brown and blue grosgrain ribbon -absolutely perfect, i should have taken a picture.
because of hila's visit, i searched for and found a box of photo's from high school (the mid 80's) -soooo funny and so great. hila was the photographer back then and she would photograph me and other friends in her clothes (she had the best) and in designs she had made herself. the hair in the photo's is priceless. i will gather my nerve and consider posting some.

a very cute couple

these are new friends and neighbors, jordan and jackie.
how adorable are they?
jordan is one of the designers at libre design / raen optics (about a month ago libre moved in to the space next door to us). jackie works at sushi: a center for the urban arts in san diego.
these two have a keen eye for style and a serious addiction to camera's, specifically polaroid. most of the time, one of them can be seen with a camera in hand or with one hung over a shoulder. the day of this visit was no exception.
