Have you ever had cheese and fruit for dessert? It's very continental you know. :-)
We gave it a whirl the other night and, oh my gosh it was fab!
Maybe because it was something new, but we took our sweet time with this dessert and enjoyed every bite. We discussed the different flavors and textures, and tried each combination.
It was simply lovely.
Neither one of us ate very much, yet we were completely satisfied. It was a lovely plate to look at, smell, and savor.
We went to the market knowing we wanted to purchase 3 cheeses (mild, full-flavored, pungent). While there we decided to go with a cow cheese, goat cheese, and a sheep's milk cheese.
As for the fruit, we went with Granny Smith apple, and red grapes. A pear would be a nice sweet flavor; we'll have to remember that when they are in season. We also brought raspberries home, but the entire container was rotten -what a bummer. Luckily we purchased a cherry jelly which went so well with the goat cheese.
The cheeses we chose:
Mild: Lamb Chopper
Full-flavored: 5 year Aged Gouda
Pungent: Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese
We will most definitely do this again.
Oh and the almonds in this last image, they are Marcona almonds and they are one of the most fabulous things I've ever tasted.
