the lovely miss chelsa and eric stopped by the studio on their way to spend christmas in point loma. it was such a treat, as they live in oakland and we don't get to visit often. and we were happy they got to see the studio.
chelsa has known of m•o•m since it's inception (she and i worked together at the shop, goodnight room, where we sold our first aprons).
thanks so much chels and eric for hanging out with us. we miss you already!
i just read that my favorite cookbook author and food magazine editor donna hay, is opening her first store in early 2009 in sydney, australia. lucky aussies!
i learned of donna hay and her beautiful cookbooks years ago and i was an instant fan. i remember when donna was on the original martha stewart show and even martha gushed over her. fresh, seasonal ingredients made into simple and complex recipes; choose your level of expertise.
the donna hay magazine is just as awesome as the cookbooks. i was stoked when my local market started carrying it. and there is a kids magazine as well. i think these books and magazines will awaken your inner foodie.
they are a birthday present to myself. i've been talking about taking lessons for awhile, so i finally did something about it.
i know how to swing dance, so i'm catching on fairly well; but man, tango is completely different from all that i know.
enjoy this scene from the tango lesson...and have a great weekend.
have you heard about the CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act)? in theory it's a good idea ("Among other things, the CPSIA bans lead and phthalates in toys,
mandates third-party testing and certification for all toys and
requires toy makers to permanently label each toy with a date and batch
number.") But as usual, when government gets involved things generally get messed up due to shortsightedness, bureaucracy and lobbying.
this law goes into effect 58 days from now and it will effect those that make toys for children under 12 years of age.
as a rule, i don't sign petitions but this one hits close to home so i signed the online petition and sent a form letter to my congressman and senators.
on wednesday a friend sent me a link to this story on boing boing,
then i followed a link (from where i don't remember) to little ida who had lot's of helpful links. this one in particular is where i signed the online petition and found the form letter.
check it out for yourself and consider signing the petition and/or sending a letter to your congressperson; at the very least pass on the information to friends and colleagues.
