working on it and a first

we had the loveliest visitors saturday afternoon, taku and kanako hoshizawa and their adorable kids (whose names i do not remember - i could kick myself, not only did i not write down their names, i didn't even take pictures!). we met taku at the encinitas poinsettia festival last november. he is from japan but was staying in chula vista (a south san diego city), which is approximately a 40 minute drive from encinitas. he liked our things and mentioned that our style is just what his wife likes too. he signed our mailing list, purchased a bib and that was that. well saturday we got a phone call from taku asking if he could come by our "store". we explained that we don't have a store, but he was welcome to come by our "workshop" (home). it was so great when not only taku, but his wife and children (1 girl, 1 boy) showed up also -to do a little shopping. mrs. hoshizawa and the children only just arrived in the states earlier this month, they now all live in chula vista (i can't imagine the culture shock they are going through) -let's hope they like mexican food.
kanako picked out some things for her daughter and also placed an order for a custom nanny's pinafore. yea! we love visitors!

Hi, this is Tere. Bethany took a few pictures the other night while I was making the pinafore; I worked on it Saturday evening and again last night...take a look.

Here you can see the nu-nu doll appliqué and I'm considering a simple trim of red rick rack.

Ta-da! What do you think?

My favorite part of every pinafore.

Well there you have it. A glimpse into my workspace and my first time writing on our blog. Talking to the "world" is new for me, so if I do or say anything dorky you have my permission to ignore it.
-Tere (Bethany's mother and one-half of m•o•m) -in case you were wondering.

could she be any cuter?

Electramom
This is an ad for a local bicycle company, and that's my mom!
I was the photographer. This isn't current work (about 10 years old), but I wanted to share anyway; to give a glimpse into some of the projects that we have collaborated on over the years.
The caption reads, "Tere Jensen, swing dancing again at age 50, cruisin' to her favorite café."
Electra got really good use out of this picture, it was in their catalog for 4 years, on their website and even made into a poster. Once, my mom was recognized -a man said, "hey, you're the Electra girl!" She was embarrassed.
Happy Friday, have a great weekend.

dinner at bety's is always good

bety's is a family owned mexican restaurant. it's one of those great finds hiding in the back of a strip-mall, the kind of place you learn of by word of mouth. well we have been hooked since our first visit. the food is great, the family is so nice and the music is good too -tonight it was music from mexico city in the 40's.

Betys5
for the quesadillas (not american style) they make the corn tortilla's when you order -yum.
Betys3
bety's son, louis. nicest guy, he makes you feel like you're an old friend.

2 new pinafores

2nanny
these nanny's pinafores have just been added to the shop. this is the sort of "matching outfit" my cousin and i wore -similar but different. it was usually something handmade by either my mom, grandmother or great-grandmother. not much has changed, my mom is still making them.
i think these are perfect for a little tomboy; nothing frilly, but still cute.

making 1st place blue ribbons tonight, smaller in size this time. they're fun to wear and they get lots of comments.

everything is going to be alright

monday wasn't such a great day, i had a major case of the blahs. however, everything turned around this evening when i learned that such a thing exists...
The Dessert Truck!
Desserttruck
granted, it's in new york. but doesn't the thought of such a thing bring a smile to your face? it helped me, my blah's are gone. and as my mother proclaimed, "a dream come true." indeed it is.
these next photo's are from the wandering eater blog, where we learned of the dessert truck.

BomboloniBreadpudding
left: bomboloni, right: bread pudding (that's not penny on top of the bread pudding, but a small chocolate dessert truck logo).
