happy independence day!

Declaration

For your consideration...
In the words of the Signers themselves, "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor."
Of the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence:
Five were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes burned to the ground. Two lost sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, and two more had sons captured. Nine fought and died in the Revolutionary War.

While grilling your burgers today, raise a glass in remembrance to these 56 visionary men.

Happy Birthday America!

a super fun weekend

what a great weekend. we had company and our first ever intern at the studio. my cousin leela's eldest daughter haley (who is 12) stayed with us thursday - sunday.
haley used the sewing machine, gocco printer, did a little embroidery, and mom started teaching her how to crochet.
each morning we sat around enjoying our tea and coffee along with good conversation. down at the studio haley took to the sewing machine quickly, as well as greeting customers and getting around the neighborhood.

haley's first project was making pouches for jessica(fied) jewlery. when jewelry is purchased we package it in a cute bag made from scraps of fabric. haley went to town sewing 18 bags over the weekend.

we got out the gocco maching and haley got to printing.

nothing like a burrito and an ocean breeze.

haley's biggest project was appliquing a t-shirt. she rummaged through the fabric scraps and created her own design.

haley was so easy-going and fun to be with; she fit in really well and we can't wait to have her back.

thank you haley for an awesome weekend! xoxo

ps: next up is eden (13); the middle daughter of my cousin tracy. yay for family and cool kids!

for the ladies

drum roll please.....introducing the Carrie Top, our first top for women! ta-da!!

Carrietop
it swings away from the body and is simply too cute. we are as usual, making it with vintage and new fabrics.

modeled here by heather, a total groovy mom that came by the shop saturday with her daughter and husband. they were in encinitas visiting family while undertaking a big move from new york to santa monica. we wish them good luck and hope they visit us again.

in front of univ, a common scene...park your bikes and skateboards outside.

texas surfer girls

look at this adorable trio that stopped by the other day.
on vacation from texas, i learned that we are kindred spirits - crocheting and knitting gifts for friends and family - i was ready to hire them on the spot.

Visitors-june
their mother (and aunt: the girls are two sisters and a cousin) told me they would be back in a week with another sister and would visit us again. we're looking forward to it.

Dotpins

i've been making these dotpins for a number of years but never knew how to display them. a week ago i busted out this card design and now the pins are in the shop. you can see in the picture above that one of the girls from texas got a set.

Dptpin-megan

the pins look great on your shirt, bag, and hat. i've had the dotpins on the lapels of my jean jacket for years. the pins are definitely equal opportunity  - guys don't be afraid of color!

boy-o-boy-o-boy!

Boyoutfit72
we have our first boy shirt; we're calling it buddy after my mom's dad.
i love this outfit, so good for summertime.

Cooltie-nunu
ta-da! a cool tie in nu-nu loves you fabric.

last night i asked my mom if she felt the need to take up a hobby -something outside of work; she said work was her hobby. glad to hear that mom.

new: grace pinafore

our newest pinafore is super groovy and a bit funky. it can be layered over just about anything, has one button in back at the neck and one big pocket in front. made with linen and cotton but don't sweat the inevitable wrinkles, because as my great-grandmother use to say, "who'll notice on a galloping horse?".

can you die from cuteness overload?

this may do it!
we have our first nu-nu fabric and we love it, love it, love it!
made by spoonflower, it's been at the studio for a approximately a month and we've just now decided what to use it for (but that's going to be a secret for now).

Nu-nurepeat2

nu-nu loves you #1

a lovely woman named daniella manini helped us with the design and the repeat. daniella walked into our studio one day and we began talking about fabric and textile design (she is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer working in the action sportswear industry). i told her of our desire to create fabric and my deficiencies in illustrator; she offered to help us on the spot. what a gal, thanks again daniella.

goofy

stella has had three visits to the vet in the last week. two for a limp on her back left leg -everything is fine, no tears or arthritis, just a sprain; and the third visit for an ear infection.
so yesterday while at the studio we decided to have some fun and play dress-up.

what do you think...did stella have fun or was she just humoring me?
